Guided Tour of Padua – Half Day

• 08.30 am or 2.30 pm: meeting with the guide at the equestrian monument to Gattamelat in front of the Basilica of St. Anthony;
• Visit to the inside of the Basilica, a place where devotion is inseparably intertwined with the art; inside it there will be an artistic overview of the followers of Giotto, then Donatello with its beautiful Renaissance, the Baroque, ending with contemporary art of Annigoni.
• Nice walk through Padua historic centre; the medieval square animated by markets
• Visit to the Palace of Reason and the Palazzo del Bo, seat of the University of Padua;

Guided tour of the Scrovegni Chapel (40 minutes)

• visits available from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm: meeting with the guide at the entrance for the guided tour of the Chapel Scrovegni, frescoed by Giotto in the XIV century.
Giotto paints humanity, his figures are flesh, they have emotions and they move in a real environment.
With him painting slowly makes its first steps to the Renaissance.
The Chapel Scrovegni is a painting masterpiece of  Italian and European fourteenth century and it is considered the most complete cycle of frescoes painted by Giotto in his mature.
Colour and light, poetry and pathos. Man and God. The sense of nature and history, the sense of humanity and faith fused to tell the uniqueness story of the Madonna and Christ. Giotto completed the Chapel frescoes within the first months of 1306.
On this date “..the Chapel has a very simple architecture: a rectangular room with vaulted ceiling, an elegant three-mullioned Gothic façade, tall, narrow windows on the south wall, then a polygonal apse raised for the cell bell”.
The cycle of paintings of the chapel is built on three main themes: episodes of life of Gioacchino and Anna (frames 1-6), episodes from the life of Mary (frames 7-13) and episodes of life and death of Christ. Below these frescoes, a series of panels illustrate the allegories of the Virtues and Vices.
The maximum time for the visit is 20 minutes.

Sailing among the Venetian Villas along the Brenta River
Since the 16Th century, canals and rivers that could be easily reached from Venice where enriched by magnificent summer estates.  Here, not far from the city, rich nobles spent their holidays. They left Venice on comfortable barges, “Burchielli”, that could navigate this shallow river. The boats were pushed by oars from St. Mark’s through the Venetian lagoon to Fusina and then pulled to Padua by horses along the Brenta River.
The boat trip was fascinating, young ladies, gallant men, nobles and adventurers were entertained by comedians and musicians.
Nowadays various and comfortable boats navigate the waters of the Brenta river from Venice to Padua and vice versa, to bring thousands of tourists to visit the venetian villas, making a daily trip, stopping at the most famous and beautiful villas linked to famous names such as Palladio and Tiepolo for a guided tour of the interior. A guided tour across nine swing bridges and five locks, water lift that allow the vies of the change of the water level of ten meters between Venice and Padua.

• The tour continues to Este, at the foot of the Euganei Hills, and visit to the ancient city wall, which rises in the plain between the mountains of southern Euganei Hills. Walk along the walls of the castle and visit to the Cathedral of Santa Tecla, the only one in Italy to have a perfect elliptical shape, where it is kept artworks of the XVIII century an altar-piece by Tiepolo;

• Transfer to Montagnana, the third walled town of fourteenth century, decorated with crenellated walls for over two kilometers, twenty-four towers and various fortifications including the Castle of S.
